Membrane bioreactors for wastewater treatment are fast becoming commonplace in municipal application, hotels, and commercial buildings . The combination of a small footprint and the capability to handle high sludge loads makes this technology ideal for primary treatment at the source and for the expansion of existing treatment plants where space is limited.

There has been a rapid growth in the last ten years for companies developing their own sheet membrane devices in competition with established companies with either similar or different membrane geometries.
